For its latest online seminar, Fanbase Press welcomes creators and educators to join Dr. Theresa Rojas for the “Integrating Comics into the Classroom” Creator Forum on Sunday, July 26, at 1 p.m./PST.
Dr. Theresa Rojas is a writer, editor, and Professor of English at Modesto Junior College, where she teaches literature, creative writing, composition, and comparative media, with a specialty in post-1945 Comics Studies and Visual Culture. She is also an artist who has exhibited work in solo and group shows around the country. Her chapbook of poetry and illustrations, Don’t Ask Me, debuted in 2019. In addition, Dr. Rojas is the creator and Editor-in-Chief of CALACAS, an art, literature, and comics anthology zine, the Founding Director of the Latinx Comic Arts Festival, and the newest member of the Executive Board of the Graphic Medicine International Collective.
In the “Integrating Comics into the Classroom” Creator Forum, attendees will follow along as Dr. Rojas shares her experience and knowledge of the ways that comics can be used as building blocks for educational curriculum. Topics will include:
- how to select and identify comics that have educational import;
- how comics may translate into different grade levels based on their age appropriateness;
- how to forge pathways for comics into campus libraries and classrooms;
- and much more.
The “Integrating Comics into Classrooms” Creator Forum will be an hour-long session which will take place via the Zoom online platform, and registration for the seminar will be $10.00 per attendee.
