Fanbase Press joined fellow indie creators and comic book fans in El Centro, CA, this past weekend (Saturday, February 15th, 2020) for Imperial Valley’s official comic book convention held at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Sports Pavilion. The day-long event featured a number of indie creators exhibiting, panels, cosplay, and a number of special guests (including Star Wars stunt actor Dickey Beer, Growing Pains‘ Jeremy Miller, writer Kyle Higgins on DC’s Nightwing and Batman Beyond, WWE Wrestler Rikishi, and many more).
Fanbase Press co-founders Barbra and Bryant Dillon and Quince creator Sebastian Kadlecik spent the day interacting with attendees and providing them with the opportunity to purchase all of the publisher’s graphic novels and comics, including the recently released hardcover, Quince: The Definitive Bilingual Edition.
We hope that you’ll enjoy some of the exciting highlights of Fanbase Press’ time at Imperial Valley Comic Con 2020 below:
Quince creator Sebastian Kadlecik and Fanbase Press Editor-in-Chief Barbra Dillon are all set up and ready to greet IVCC attendees!
IVCC also marked the first time Fanbase Press exhibited on an indoor soccer field, and we found the AstroTurf surprisingly comfortable on the feet! Thankfully, we managed to avoid receiving any red cards!
Fanbase Press shared the field with fellow exhibitor and comic writer Henry Barajas who is best known for La Voz De M.A.Y.O. Tata Rambo, his graphic memoir about his great-grandfather Ramon Jaurigue (published by Image Comics).
Are these the cosplayers you’re looking for?
The 501st Legion was also in attendance at IVCC, complete a 3D printed Battle Droid replica (Roger, Roger!).
The 501st is an international fan-based organization dedicated to the construction and wearing of screen-accurate replicas of Imperial Stormtrooper armor, Sith Lords, Clone Troopers, bounty hunters, and other villains from the Star Wars universe.
Javier Hernandez, artist and creator of El Muerto and contributor to Quince: The Definitive Bilingual Edition, was also in attendance at IVCC. Hernandez also owns and operates the imprint know as Los Comex.
Attendees of IVCC also had the opportunity to learn how to play some classic geeky games like Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering.
Comic creators Matt and John Yuan (also known for their appearances in Observe and Report, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and more) brought their comics Serving Supes, Inspector Oh, Love Town, and more to share with attendees.
Throughout the convention, a number of trivia contests took place courtesy of Mr. Trivia, covering geeky topics like “Marvel vs. DC,” Star Wars, and more.
