Well, the Cubbies were off by a year of winning the World Series according to Back to the Future, but at least they finally won! In this day and age, however, you know director Robert Zemeckis and producer Steven Spielberg can release a special edition where Marty goes to the future of 2016 instead of 2015.
In the meantime, at least we have IDW Publishing’s ongoing Back to the Future comic book series to keep us entertained. Perhaps Doc and Marty will even create some sort of alternate timeline that causes the Cubs to lose in 2015 and win in 2016 instead. That sounds like a fun adventure to me!
Meanwhile, last month in Back to the Future #13, we began another few-parter with “Who is Marty McFly, Part I.” After all Marty has been through, he’s starting to forget who he really is. What happened in his life? And what didn’t? What timeline is he even a part of anymore?
This month, in Back to the Future #14, we continue with Part II of “Who is Marty McFly?” After receiving a strange note from “a friend in time,” Marty meets Professor Marcus Irving. Professor Irving was a researcher on time travel who was asked to create a time machine by General Groves and Colonel Lomax, the very same people who Doc turned down in the early 1960s. But after 24 years of his life wasted, the Professor quickly discovered that he was not the General and Colonel’s first choice. Now, he’s out to seek the missing piece to his research, which puts both Marty and Doctor Brown in his way…
As always, I commend writers John Barber and Bob Gale on their creative storylines that fit the original timeline so perfectly. And with art by Emma Vieceli and colors by Jose Luis Rio, I am reminded once again of the classic Archie comics and their unique cartoon style.
Now, if Marty’s alternate realities are truly still out there, I wonder which Marty will come after himself first!
Until next month,
