Ruby’s racing against time to catch Identify Thief and take back her appearance, but the rest of the world isn’t standing still. Summer learns her new teammates in The Hive possess destructive and violent powers while members of The League of Larcenists get tangled with an organization determined to scare them straight! The action is ramping up, and things are heading towards a killer climax!

Geek-Girl #13 continues many threads from the previous issue and introduces a new twist, but the overall feel is a bridge between the inciting incident and the final showdown. Ruby barely appears (probably due to insecurity over her withered body), and several secondary characters take center stage. Even Summer’s arc feels short in comparison to the plot line around The League of Larcenists. It’s intriguing to see where it will lead, but this is definitely not a good starting point for new Geek-Girl readers. (Start at the beginning of the Identity Crisis plot minimum; if possible, pick up the very first volume and enjoy the entire Geek-Girl adventure from its inception.)

I needed to read this issue twice to make sure I wasn’t confusing characters and situations; however, once I sat with it, I realized that everything is moving the various cast members towards a massive conclusion. I have some theories about how things might go, but the Geek-Girl creative team manages to surprise me with most of their finales.

Will the former League of Larcenists members join Ruby or Summer or create a new super team? Can Ruby get her identity back before Identity Thief does something heinous to Karin (and do readers want Karin to be saved)? Is Glassy Lady’s power both horrifying and incredible? (Well, the answer to that one is many times yes). Geek-Girl #13 puts the pieces in place for a face-off between the real Geek-Girl and Identity Thief, plus suggests massive shakeups in the superhero/supervillain landscape. Nothing’s predetermined in this universe, so get ready for a wild ride!
