The following is an interview with writer Aaron Curtis regarding the recent release of the YA sci-fi comic book, Solu to the Rescue. In this interview, Fanbase Press Editor-in-Chief Barbra Dillon chats with Curtis about his shared creative process in working with artist Ngwu Ugochukwu to bring the story to life on the page, his future plans for the story and characters, and more!
Barbra Dillon, Fanbase Press Editor-in-Chief: Congratulations on the recent release of Solu to the Rescue! For those who may be unfamiliar, what can you share with us about the premise of the story?
Aaron Curtis: Solu to the Rescue is set in a quiet rural town where life can feel stagnant, and leaving isn’t easy. It centers on Willow, a young adult who feels stuck, working a job he hates and still living at home. Willow is driven by the desire to rewrite his past mistakes and prove he’s changed, but when an accident grants him new powers, he discovers that growth—and the relationships he holds close—might be even more challenging to navigate than he expected.
BD: How would you describe your shared creative process in working with artist Ngwu Ugochukwu to bring this superhero story to life on the page?
AC: The process was incredibly smooth. I’d share an idea and provide references, but NGWU always brought the character to life in ways that exceeded my imagination.
BD At Fanbase Press, our #StoriesMatter initiative endeavors to highlight the impact that stories can have on audiences of various mediums. How do you feel that this story may connect with and impact readers?
AC: I believe this story will resonate with readers, especially young adults navigating economic pressures and feeling the weight of time. It reflects the journey many of us face—pushing through life’s challenges while holding onto the hope of better days ahead.
BD: If given the opportunity, would you like to revisit the world and characters of the story for new story arcs?
AC: Absolutely! I think it would be incredible for both scientists to have their own story arcs in separate books before this main story unfolds. It would add so much depth to the overall narrative.
BD: Are there any other projects – past or current – that you would like to highlight for our readers?
AC: This is my first narrative story that I’ve written and published, but it’s just the beginning. I plan to write and share many different stories in the future.
BD: Lastly, what is the best way for our readers to find more information about Solu to the Rescue?
AC: The best way to stay updated on Solu to the Rescue is by following our Instagram, YouTube, or TikTok, where I share all the latest news, behind-the-scenes content, and announcements. Plus, keep an eye out—paperback copies of the first issue will be available soon!
