One of the best parts of San Diego Comic-Con are the experiences around the convention center. In the days leading up to opening night, studios build elaborate experiences to promote their wares while giving fans some fun photo opportunities (and some cool swag) to commemorate their weekend.

This year, one of the most popular attractions (based on the length of the line to get in, at least) is Hulu’s Animayhem. In it, Hulu has taken its slate of animated series and created several displays where you, a three-dimensional person, can seamlessly blend into the two-dimensional worlds that the shows inhabit.

The experience starts with Solar Opposites, which happens to have its Season Four premiere coming up on August 14, 2023. As you enter the Animayhem, you get shrunken down by Yumyulack and have the pleasure of taking your photo with a giant hamster and/or inside of a coffee cup. From there, you get to have a chat with Alanis Borealis, the imaginary friend of The Great North’s Judy Tobin in a huge dome. Alanis was having some technical difficulties when I got to experience her, but the room was air conditioned, so it was still a lovely time.

After Alanis, the experience walks you through a hallway of infinite Rogers from American Dad and then gives you the opportunity to sit on couch from The Simpsons, behind the counter at Bob’s Burgers, or ease into the credit sequence of Archer. If you’re up for waiting on another line, you can also get a 360-degree image of yourself sitting in the world of Family Guy. And if you don’t want the wait, you can also just sit on the Family Guy couch, as well.

The last photo opportunity comes courtesy of Futurama. After a long hiatus, the show returns with a new season on July 24. And to celebrate that return, Hulu constructed a 55-foot replica of the gang’s HQ, which also features their ship crash-landing into its edifice. The are some fun set builds inside, including one that lets you pretend to get sucked into a pneumatic tube! The swag you receive at the end is also fun and includes a green two-dimensional-looking backpack, a poster, and a set of six egg-themed Futurama pins that, if you’re anything like my two-year-old, you may enjoy counting them over and over. If you’re a fan of any of the animated shows and/or want a cool pin set, the activation might just be worth the wait time for you.

Hulu Animayhem is taking over the Hilton Bayfront parking lot through July 23 and runs from 9:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, and 9:30 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 23.
