Love is in the air at Fanboy Comics! In this magical month of romance and enchantment, the FBC Staff and Contributors decided to take a moment to stop and smell the roses. In the week leading up to Valentine’s Day, a few members of the Fanboy Comics crew will be sharing their very personal “Love Letters” with our readers, addressed to the ones that they adore the most.

REPORT ENCOUNTER WITH XENOMORPH.

HAVE ACQUIRED ADDICTION TO VIDEO GAME ALIEN: ISOLATION.  REQUEST PERMISSION TO GUSH PROFUSELY.

Forget it. I don’t have time to waste on the f@#%ing company’s transmission protocol.

Originally, this transmission was meant for another. Film director Francis Lawrence.

While Gary Ross is a talented director, I cannot express how much my heart swells at the thought of the respect, understanding, and maturity that Lawrence has brought to The Hunger Games films since Ross’ departure. I get flushed and weak in the knees at the thought of the approaching The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 film release. Still, even with every ounce of my devotion dedicated to Lawrence, my geeky heart strayed during this season of romance. I couldn’t help it. The heart wants what the heart wants, right?

Well, my heart wanted a Xenomorph.

I’m sorry, Francis, but as a hardcore Alien fan since the fourth grade, I didn’t stand a chance against the beauty and grace that is Alien: Isolation.

And, Alien: Isolation, what can I say that you don’t already know? You make my heart pound like no other game ever has. The thrills (and chills) that you relentlessly dispense leave me shaking, afraid, and masochistically begging for more.

Even when your “passion” for scaring the living $#@% out of me forced this geek to play the game with the lights on, I never lost my desire to, once again, delve into the atmospheric corridors of the space station Sevastopol and rub shoulders with the Big Chap. I don’t mind revealing that no other video game has ever caused me to do this. You’re something very special, Alien: Isolation.

You are also, without a doubt, the most immersive Alien experience ever available to those who weren’t on the film sets themselves. You could’ve easily seduced me with your terrifyingly addictive cat-and-mouse game (me being the mouse, you being the cat, of course), but you didn’t seek to just satisfy my passion for the Alien franchise . . . you wanted to blow my mind.

Mission accomplished, Alien: Isolation.

TRANSMISSION ALERT:  MINOR SPOILERS INCOMING.

Blow my mind, you did, with your attention to detail and need to impress. The level involving locating and entering the alien derelict on LV-426 made me feel as if I had literally stepped inside Ridley Scott’s masterpiece and was experiencing the alien beauty of H.R. Giger firsthand. The discovery of the alien nest snugly nestled in the central reactor of the Sevastopol gave me an adrenaline rush that lasted for days and took me right back to the first time I had accompanied Cameron’s Colonial Marines into the bowels of the Hadley’s Hope and discovered the fate of the missing colonist. You have terrified me in a way that only my own imagination has been able to do before, and I love you for it, Alien: Isolation.

I haven’t even mentioned the return of the original cast. You literally continued the original film, Alien: Isolation. I won’t even name that other recent (and horrible) continuation of Alien, but I will state that you, Alien: Isolation, are the type of franchise continuation the fans have truly desired, and I absolutely adore you for it.

Happy Valentine’s Day, Alien: Isolation. Thanks for being so f#$%ing awesome.

This is Bryant Dillon, Fanboy Comics President and devoted Alien fan, signing off.
