Dear Fanboy Comics Readers:
For the past four years, Fanboy Comics has provided thoughtful reviews and coverage of various properties within the geek genre. The staff and contributors of FBC love bringing content by both professional and indie creators to a larger audience, so that we can provide support and empowerment for creators and the arts while celebrating fandom in its many forms.
With that in mind, we want to provide that same opportunity for growth and experience to interested writers who would like to work with Fanboy Comics as contributing reviewers, and we are now accepting applications for new contributors!
What Is a Fanboy Comics Contributor?
Fanboy Comics receives a great deal of advance content for review from publishers, studios, indie creators, and other companies, ranging from comics and graphic novels to movies, novels, web comics, music, RPGs and board games, and more. As a Contributor for FBC, you would have access to a myriad of exciting material in advance of its release, as well as additional opportunities for creator interviews, convention access, and various other benefits! Please note that this is an unpaid position at this time.
Who Should Apply
If you are a new or experienced writer who is interested in writing reviews for FBC, we want to hear from you! You do not need to have previous writing experience in order to apply.
What Is Required
Fanboy Comics seeks strong writers with a grasp for thoughtfully analyzing and examining content for its vision, production value, storytelling, artistic execution, performance, and other aspects of the creative process.
FBC holds a high regard for creators and the amount of work required when producing a new project. For that reason, we expect that all reviews will reflect honest and considerate coverage of the material while providing constructive feedback when necessitated.
In addition, Fanboy Comics maintains strict deadlines for its contributors in submitting their material, so that the creators, publishers, and other individuals submitting the material for review may anticipate the exact date that the review will be published. Contributors will be expected to meet these deadlines and/or maintain a dialogue with FBC’s Managing Editor, if they foresee being unable to meet the deadline.
How to Apply
Please submit two sample reviews that showcase your writing style within the geek genre to Fanboy Comics Managing Editor Barbra Dillon [barbra (at) fanboycomics.net] by Wednesday, July 16, 2014. Please submit your sample reviews as Word document attachments. The reviews may be of any material of your choosing, and no one style of writing is correct. We like each writer to have their own voice. In addition, please include a short paragraph about yourself and your interest in becoming a contributor at FBC. Barbra will be in contact with you to confirm receive of your submission and to explain the next steps of the application process.
