I swear, this series just keeps getting better and better. That’s saying a lot, considering we know the future of these characters, having already seen Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, but Brian Wood manages to keep me enthralled and eager for more after every issue.

While Boba Fett was always my favorite growing up and he has a quick scene in this issue, I also found Wedge to be an interesting character. Sure, he didn’t have much to say, but as the only pilot to survive all three battles (besides Luke), you can’t help but want to know more about him. So, I was delighted to see this issue start out with a nice heart-to-heart between Luke and Wedge. We get a brief glimpse into Wedge’s mind and hints at a past relationship that I am eager to hear them expand upon. I love how Wood is getting into the heads of the characters and how each is dealing with the Battle of Yavin on an emotional level. Sure, it was a victory for the Rebellion, but at the cost of many lives. These are the kinds of conversations I never knew I wanted to hear until I read them.

We only check in on Han, Chewie, and Perla briefly as they are still trying to lose Fett. (This guy just doesn’t know when to quit!) Leia and Vader continue to impress me the most with their storylines. Leia’s emotional journey and confrontation with the man responsible for her planet’s destruction is nothing short of brilliant. Meanwhile, Birra Seah has a hard time understanding Vader’s obsession over a seemingly harmless moisture farmer over a dedicated and more established anti-Imperial such as Wedge Antillies.

If you haven’t picked up this series yet, you are doing yourself a great disservice. This is a story all Star Wars fans would enjoy, and Wood and D’anda are knocking it out of the park!
