Here at Fanbase Press, we strive to provide an outlet for up-and-coming creators to promote and showcase their incredible works. With thousands of creators utilizing crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter and Indiegogo to make those works a reality, we will highlight these talented creators and their noteworthy campaigns through #CrowfundingFridays! We hope that you will join us in giving these projects a moment of your time (and possibly your support)!
Project #1: Everyday Magus
What it’s about: Everyday Magus is perfect for fans of I Hate Fairyland, Happy!, and 4 Kids Walk into a Bank. On the day Chalk dies, he is captured by the supernatural corporation Ominous Powers Incorporated (OPI) and sent to “Newly Departed Processing.” There, the enslaved alien Octoped, Cyanea, is forced to tattoo him with the magical sigil of slavery, binding Chalk into OPI’s service. Chalk and Cyanea bond over their shared trauma of child loss, and she inscribes a magic instruction on Chalk’s soul, which are also his daughter’s final words: “Save Me.” Written by Ominous Powers Ink co-founders Sean Murphy and Kelly La Croix, with art by comics newcomer Paik Abanilla, colors by Dan Jackson (Stranger Things, The Incredibles, Star Wars), with letters and design by award-winning art director and designer Keith Wood.

Project #2: Gustaffo Vargas Sketchbook Vol. 2
What it’s about: When I think of an idea, a character design, create a new world, or start a new project, the first thing I do is to sketch. Sketching is entering my personal kitchen, where I play with the ingredients, trying to find new and fresh combinations, discovering new flavours. In SKETCHBOOK Vol 2, you will find doodles, character designs, commission sketches, pinup & cover processes…basically anything and everything.

Project #3: Hornets #1
What it’s about: In August 2062, the Alliance of States (formerly the United States) is embroiled in an ideological conflict with technologically advanced insurgents, the Republic. But the Alliance have a not-so-secret weapon – the Hornets, an elite all-female unit known for executing high-risk missions in a bid to end the bloody conflict. Made up of no-nonsense martial arts expert Vilma Guerrero, engineering genius Ida Wills, legendary sharpshooter Gloria Diaz, and gifted medic Natalia Vaughan, the Hornets create headlines wherever they go. Until they’re captured by the Republic. And mysteriously ghosted by the Alliance. Transferred to the notorious Camp Exelix, the Hornets must rely on their wits, courage, and teamwork to escape. Pity they can’t stand each other. Fusing sci-fi spectacle with intimate drama, Hornets explores notions of identity and self-belief, drawing inspiration from sources as diverse as the Metal Gear Solid saga and Orange Is the New Black to weave a poignant, action-packed tale intended for mature readers.

Project #4: The Jump #1-3
What it’s about: After a series of crippling personal tragedies, Thomas Northrope retreats from his everyday life and finds comfort in an online community dedicated to the art of astral projection. When he demonstrates a unique aptitude for the practice, Thomas becomes the target of a mysterious corporate/political machine – known as HORIZON – bent on using promising young practitioners to win a centuries-old war on the astral plane. The Jump is a comic book series from screenwriter Rylend Grant, artist Fabio Alves, colorist Edson Ferriera, and letterer HdE… the same twisted team that brought you Action Lab: Danger Zone’s critically-lauded superhero noir Banjax.
