Snarked 11Snarked is the Eisner Award winning all-ages comic by Roger Langridge, and it is worth all the praise and accolades it has received. This book is full of action, adventure, and humor brought to life by lovable characters. Langridge has populated the world of Snarked with characters from Alice in Wonderland like the Walrus and the Carpenter and the Cheshire Cat, but he has made the characters all his own with his fun, flawed take on them.

The story is that the Walrus has gotten himself wrapped up with a Princess on a crazy mission to rescue her father, the King, from Snark Island. They just have one big problem standing in their way: The Snark, a terrible beast of legend that few have ever seen and fewer have ever lived to talk about. The story is and can be silly at times, but Langridge never dumbs things down for kids. The dialogue is witty, fast paced, and humorous. The action is tense and exciting, but never scary. Langridge has found a wonderful balance between a story that is appropriate for children but entertaining and engaging to adults.

The art is bright and colorful, and the character designs are humorous. Animal characters live right alongside human ones, and there are definitely some influences from past funny strips like Peanuts and Popeye, but when all of these elements come together, Langridge has crafted a world all his own that is bright and fun. This is a great read for parents to give their kids, and I highly suggest that parents should read it with their kids, as they will find it highly entertaining, as well. This is a fine issue to jump in on, but with a series this good, it is well worth it to pick up the trade paperback and start from the beginning.
