The head of this town is Doc who purveys both the virtual reality and the rehabilitation, taking people’s money both ways and making sure no one ever really gets cured. The only person offering real change is Ron, Doc’s son, who runs his own rehabilitation clinic that has thus far remained outside of Doc’s control, much to his chagrin. Ron also has a secret daughter that Doc doesn’t know about.
Meanwhile, Ano, Teddy’s former wife turned secret lover, has been working in Congress for the rights of anomalies like herself. She’s done her best to be diplomatic, to reach across the aisle, and work for change through the proper channels. Finally, in the previous issue, frustrated that no one would listen to her, she showed everyone the terrible, squalid living conditions that her people have been forced to live in and was physically removed from Congress as a result.
In this issue, we open with Ano, now on the run as a result of her actions, much like Teddy. We only get a brief scene with her, which is unfortunate. Personally, I’m more invested in her storyline than Teddy’s. Hopefully, she’ll play a larger part in the conclusion next issue.
In Prosperity, Teddy was taken captive last issue by Cain, Doc’s right-hand man. Now, she finally escapes and sets about to get out of this town once and for all. It won’t be easy, though, as Doc has his own agenda, and Ron has another agenda yet. Everything comes to a head, when—well, you’ll just have to read it for yourself.
There are a lot of different plot threads in this story arc and a lot of different characters who all have their part to play in it. It can be difficult to keep track of at times. Still, it’s worth the effort. The story by Pierrick Colinet and Elsa Charretier is a lot of fun to read, and the world they’ve created is brought vividly to life by Daniele di Nicuolo’s artwork. The fact that there’s a lot to go through just means that there’s a lot to like. I’ve been enjoying the story quite a bit so far, and I look forward to seeing how things play out next issue in the epic conclusion.
