‘Tomb Raider: Survivor’s Crusade #1’ – Advance Comic Book Review

After last month’s teaser trailer premiere, Lara Craft is officially back on paper in Dark Horse Comics’ Tomb Raider: Survivor’s Crusade. Having been missed from the comic book world since January, we saw a brief glimpse of Lara via a resurrection of her older comics from the early 2000s just last month. But, so long as new issues keep coming until the new Tomb Raider movie this March, I’ll be a happy explorer.

This season’s Tomb Raider #1 brings us all the way out to Corniglia, Italy, where Ms. Croft has discovered yet another hidden tomb, this one dedicated to St. Christopher. Although many believe the saint never existed, Trinity has no respect for sacred burial grounds, as they search for a cross carved by St. Christopher himself that is said to reveal the exact location of God. But when Lara is determined to retrieve the name of the man who killed her father, she’s also willing to put a stop to Trinity’s plans once and for all.

Kudos to writers Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly for an brand new and extremely intriguing Tomb Raider storyline. As we watch what happens to Lara in this first (of hopefully many) Survivor’s Crusade issue, her feelings are revealed in a multitude of voicemails delivered to her trusting friend, Jonah. This is a beautiful way to start a new comic book series. And with gorgeous colors and artwork from Michael Atiyeh and Ashley A. Woods, respectively, this is surely going to be a series not to be missed!

This Thanksgiving, I am most certainly thankful for having Lara Croft back in my life.

Until December . . .
