‘TMNT Ongoing #73:’ Advance Comic Book Review

Okay. I think I’m going crazy… Did I—or did I not—just write about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?  I did. Right?

Either way, story writers Kevin Eastman, Bobby Curnow, and Tom Waltz must never sleep. Between TMNT Universe, the new TMNT Dimension X, and their ongoing series (which is now the longest running TMNT comic ever!), how do they have time for anything else but writing comic books? Although, can you blame them?

If you can recall from last week in TMNT #72, our heroes-in-a-half-shell barely escaped with their lives thanks to Baxter Stockman crashing the Pantheon party – a party that occurs barely once per century between immortals such as Kitsune, The Rat King, and friends to decide the course of history. Sounds like one huge oxymoron if you ask me.

But now in TMNT #73, General Krang is on trial for genocide—the events of which place most likely last year at this point—and the Turtles have traveled to Dimension X to help make sure Krang gets what he deserves. But with an assassin on the loose and three witnesses essential to Krang’s case still at large, will our pizza-loving friends (and Leatherhead—yes, that Leatherhead!) be able to stop Krang even when he’s already behind bars?

Sure, Eastman, Curnow and Waltz have an excellent story on their hands, but the real dynamic duo behind the success of this series has been colors by Ronda Pattinson and the stunning artwork of Cory Smith. Consistency is key, and that’s what this team has: consistency and heart. A whole lotta heart!

Congrats on the long-running success, guys! May this series last as long as the digital color pencils in the coloring apps on my iPad Pro…

Until next month,
#TurtlePower
