‘TMNT Universe #11:’ Advance Comic Book Review

The Turtles may have bargained for most of their friends this month between the Earth Protection Force, but the Mutanimals have always had their own dramatic pasts and storylines, which we seem to be seeing more of in TMNT Universe.

Back in May, Angel and Alopex went on their own trippy adventure inside the realm of the Toad Baron, a relative of the evil Kitsune who wants nothing more than to party and be merry.  But he didn’t expect our two heroes to trick the trickster, especially after they reminded themselves as to why they fight and what they stand for.

This month, however, in TMNT Universe #11, we get a glimpse into the lives of Sally and Ray who discover a new Mutanimal, Dreadmon.  Dreadmon the Jackal is being hunted by Null and her cronies, but he has to quickly decide whether he wants to be a man again and go against his beliefs, or be the Mutanimal he was always meant to be…

This month also brought us a new team to the table.  Writer Rich Douek has definitely earned his spot on the TMNT train with his introduction to new character, Dreadmon.  Both Douek’s character and story had heart and purpose, something we don’t read too much about in this day and age.  And although Aaron Conley’s artwork had more of a cartoony feel than past Universe issues, it brought a sense of fun and purity into the series that, perhaps, was missing.

Needless to say, I hope we haven’t seen the last of Dreadmon the Jackal.  He seems like a good Mutanimal—guy—to keep around…

Until next issue,
