‘Tomb Raider #7:’ Advance Comic Book Review

Have you heard the news, Tomb Raider fans!?  I don’t know about you, but I’ve been waiting almost a whole year to celebrate and rejoice!  Mark your smartwatches, nerds, because Rise of the Tomb Raider, originally released for Xbox One only, will finally be available for the Playstation 4 on October 11th, 2016!  Excited now?!

In the meantime, we Lara Croft fans (Can I start calling us “Crofties?”) at least have Dark Horse Comics’ ongoing Tomb Raider comic book series to keep us entertained.  And if you’ve been following along, I’m sure you can agree that each issue is getting better and better!

We’re seven issues in, and the Tomb Raider herself has already traveled around the world. She found the resting place of some magical mushrooms first discovered by her friend, Professor Demur, who, unfortunately, took his own life in the last issue by using the mushrooms Lara tried so hard to save.  Thankfully, Lara took her aggression out on some Knighthood of the Dark Spore (protectors of said magical mushrooms) ass to avenge the Professor.  Needless to say, it’s been an active seven issues between motorcycle chases, flying bullets, and relying on the instincts of a true Tomb Raider.

Flash-forward a week later, and Miss Croft hasn’t slept and is trying everything she can to distract herself from the loss of her friend.  But when one friend leaves, another comes back into her life.  This time, it’s Sam!  Sam was being treated at a mental institution gone wrong. When Lara tries to investigate, she may not find the patient but could very well become one…

Words cannot express my gratitude for script writer Mariko Tamaki and the rest of his team.  I see detail and dedication within every page, and with line art by Phillip Sevy and colors by Michael Atiyeh, Tomb Raider has certainly become an ongoing series to reckon with.

As for the much-anticipated video game, Rise of the Tomb Raider…. Is it October yet?!

Until next month,
