David Pepose and his team of storytellers (Gavin Guidry, Liz Kramer, Ariana Maher) created one of the wackiest and heartwarming stories of the year with Going to the Chapel. It’s a heartening and hilarious tale of relationships and that, sometimes, we can miss what we used to have with other people. That message is made all the clearer in this fascinating and enjoyable collected edition.
Going to the Chapel is a story that’s told at break-neck speed, and it feels as though it was meant to be read that way. This is a story that essentially begs to be binged. In fact, the trade paperback enhances the enjoyability and value of the overall story. Instead of waiting month after month for the next issue, we can read it all as one cohesive story that has a near-perfect flow. I’d go far as to say that for anyone interested in delving into comic books and graphic novels, they should pick this collected edition to get them started.
The collected edition of Going to the Chapel combines wit, levity, existential dilemmas, and millennial humor (Twitter is the worst.) in a wonderfully paced and insightful story of how our past relationships don’t need to define us.
