Who can possibly defend Earth against Evil Overlordess Rutina? Only one team has got what it takes to answer the call of the Great Cosmic Algorithm and protect our planet, and they are known as the Mystic Cosmic Patrol!
Debuting on August 24th on FunnyOrDie.com, Mystic Cosmic Patrol is a Super Sentai Tokusatsu parody coming from Loners & Rebels Motion Pictures and the mind of indie comic creator and TV animation writer Gavin Hignight (Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Concrete World). As the official press release states: “Mystic Cosmic Patrol is an interstellar spoof with exciting Kaiju action, featuring a special blend of comedy, martial arts, and sci-fi adventure where spandex clad heroes fight ridiculous rubber monsters. The pilot episode features a number of well-known actors, including Chris Masterson (Malcolm in the Middle) as Jack the Blue Patrolman and leader of the Mystic Cosmic Patrol team. Jack’s fellow “patrollers” include Leo the Red Patrolman (Tim Jo from Fox’s Pitch), Emily the Green Patrolman (Chelsea Tavares from Freeform’s Unfabulous), Carl the Pink Patrolman (Chris Candy of Rosewood), Candy the Yellow Patrolman (Laura Monaco of The Eye), and Hignight himself as Micky the Black Patrolman. Guided by the wisdom of Gorgon (Tim Russ of Star Trek: Voyager) and their trusty Martini-Bot (John Kassir of Tales from the Crypt), it’s up to the Mystic Cosmic Patrol to put an end to Rutina’s devious plots to destroy the planet Earth.”
The Mystic Cosmic Patrol series is the brain child of Hignight, who created and wrote the sci-fi spoof series. In addition to Nickelodeon’s popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series, Hignight is also known for his work on Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man, Avengers Assemble, and Iron Man: Armored Adventures. Hignight has produced and directed two music videos for film director, composer, and genre legend John Carpenter, and Fanbase Press readers will also know him as the writer and creator of the graphic novel, Motor City, and the cyberpunk web-comic, The Concrete World. (Be sure to check out our 2014 interview with Hignight here.)
Mystic Cosmic Patrol is executive produced by Tom Meyer-Klipsch (Out of Print; Back in Time) and Hignight. Chris Wyatt (Napoleon Dynamite, Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man), Monaco, and Masterson serve as producers, and the series special effects makeup was developed by Face Off: Allstars Season 11 winner Cig Neutron.
