SDCC 2017: Breaking News from Shout! Factory and Scream Factory - Panel Coverage

The Fanbase Press crew attended San Diego Comic-Con's Breaking News from Shout! Factory and Scream Factory panel on Friday, July 21st, 2017, which involved the creative minds of the respective production companies making special announcements and unveiling exclusive sneak peeks of upcoming Blu-ray collector’s editions and new movies coming to audiences in the coming months.

The lineup of panelists included Jeremy Whitham (Development Director), Brian Ward (Sr. Director of Blu-ray and DVD Production), and Jeff Nelson (Sr. Marketing Director), and the panel was moderated by Bill Hunt of The Digital Bits.  Fans in attendance were treated to a series of clips from the upcoming releases from Shout! Factory and Scream Factory, including the upcoming 6-day Twitch streaming marathon of Starcade, as well as incredible original content and contemporary movies within the theatrical release realm.

In this Corner of the World, based on the award-winning manga by Furniyo Kouno, will be put out in theatres on August 11, 2017, and later on Blu-ray and DVD by Shout! Factory.  In addition, writer/director Lena Khan’s comedy, The Tiger Hunter, will be released this fall starring Danny Pudi and Jon Heder.  Additional titles to be released (and re-released in special editions) include Howard Lovecraft starring Ron Perlman, Mark Hamill, and Christopher Plummer, the sequel to the Red Sonja animated comic, the third installment of Digimon Adventure Tri, the Halo: The Complete Video Collection, Matinee starring John Goodman, The Plague Dogs, and Super Sentai Gingaman.  Most exciting of all, though, is the announcement of the Mac and Me re-release (which was predicated by the required Mac and Me clip made infamous by actor Paul Rudd on Conan O'Brien).

On the heels of the Scream Factory's fifth anniversary, new announcements from Senior Marketing Director Jeff Nelson included the collector's edition of Dawn of the Dead (2004), Attack of the Puppet People (1968), Eye of the Cat, the sequels Darkman 2 and Darkman 3American Gothic, the Cyborg Collector's Edition, The Strangers Collector's Edition (2008), and Sam Raimi's Drag Me to Hell.  Excitedly, Misery and Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984) will both be given the collector's edition treatment.

Overall, the panelists' own passion for working with these properties was palpable, and audiences everywhere will thoroughly enjoy these upcoming (re)releases from Shout! Factory and Scream Factory.
