Fanbase Press Interviews Comic Excitement Convention Featured Guest Tara Azarian

The following is an interview with cosplayer Tara Azarian who will soon be appearing as a featured guest at Comic Excitement Convention in Los Angeles, CA, from January 14-15, 2017. In this interview, Fanbase Press Editor-in-Chief Barbra Dillon chats with Azarian about her involvement with the convention, her process for selecting new cosplay characters, her upcoming projects, and more!

Barbra Dillon, Fanbase Press Editor-in-Chief: You will soon be participating in Comic Excitement Convention this January 14-15, 2017, at the LA Convention Center.  How did you become involved in the show, and what are you most looking forward to about the event?

Tara Azarian
: I met the show’s producer at another convention, and he asked me to be a guest at Comic Excitement! I’m really looking forward to the event! I very much enjoy any opportunity that allows me to connect to my fans.

BD: As a multi-hyphenate, you have worked as a writer, director, actress, and cosplayer for the past 13 years.  How do you balance your various roles, and do you find that you often take on more than one role on any given project?

TA: I love wearing a variety of hats. Each has its own reason for being part of who I am:
. Writing allows me a storytelling outlet.
. Directing & Producing allows me a creative outlet.
. Acting allows me to become other people in a socially acceptable way.
. Cosplaying allows me to connect with my favorite fandoms.

Work, like life, is all about balance. I wear whatever hat is appropriate for the situation. I’m always thankful for opportunities!

BD: What can you tell us about your production company, Front Porch Films, and the kinds of projects that you produce?

TA: I started Front Porch Films when I was 11. I knew at an early age that I wanted to create content on my own, in addition to the work I do for other studios. To date I have released 6 films and two web series through my company.

BD: In what capacity will you be appearing at Comic Excitement Convention, and are there any particular projects that you will be promoting at the convention?

TA: I am a cosplay guest at Comic Excitement, and I am looking forward to meeting everyone!

BD: With regard to your cosplay, how would you describe your process in choosing and designing each new character that you portray?

TA: I love to do gender bend cosplays and mashups of two fandoms into one character.  I also love to do pin-up versions of popular characters. I have a cosplay app on my phone that allow me to take notes and write down ideas as they come to me, which is amazing because I usually have my best ideas when I am in the middle of 12 other things! So, I write them down in my app and then go over them at night and refine them.

BD: Are there any upcoming projects on which you are working that you would like to share with our readers?

TA: I have a lot of projects in the works, some of which I can’t comment on right now. I just released a cosplay calendar, and I can say that I am proud to announce that I have accepted the role of Ashley in the upcoming independent feature film, Hardley Easlie. You can see the trailer here.

BD: Lastly, what would you like to tell readers who want to learn more about your work?
