Dear Sir Patrick Stewart,

For the majority of my 36 years, somewhere near 30 of them, I have been fond of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Not only has this series been a life-long favorite, and I consider it my go-to for watching reruns of TV shows, I have always been charmed by your role: Jean-Luc Picard, Captain of the Starship USS Enterprise, NCC-1701-D. Your foundation of respectful candor, established inadequacies with children, and dealing with stressful situations with a calm demeanor became a significant force during my younger years. I hoped to be that calm. I hoped to be that leader. I hoped to be you.

Dearest Diana,

To my beloved Wonder Woman. Though I feel it would seem more than apparent how much I openly and genuinely love you from the depths of my heart, I don't wish to take that for "granite" (Poor choice of words, given your god-given beginning.), but you'll pardon the pun I'm sure.

Dear Deadpool Creative Team,

From the minute “someone” leaked the test footage, you had me enthralled. Could we really be getting the Deadpool we deserved? Could we handle all the chimichanga goodness? How refreshing is the smell of fine Corinthian leather in the middle of a fight? Those few minutes of footage were all we needed to demand that the studio let us see your entire brilliance, and we demanded it with all the Internet’s speed, anonymity, and vitriol we could muster. As fanboys and fangirls, it was a considerable wave of demand that was thankfully heard by the suits, so y’all could make us very, very happy. You knew what would happen, you sly dogs. You hollered, “Come out and play!” and we were more than happy to oblige.

“It’s a strange sensation, dying. No matter how many times it happens, you never get used to it.”

Characters in ensemble dramas need episodes focused around them to establish who they are, what they want, and where they came from. There’s a tradition in shows like DS9 to have one member of the ensemble act as the protagonist of the hour, with the rest of the cast taking the role of foils or even antagonists. After introducing Ezri Dax, they couldn’t just sneak her onto the show and pretend she’d been there the whole time. No, she was going to need that spotlight.

"How important it is for us to recognize our heroes and sheroes." - Maya Angelou
