Being a writer (or rather a cartoonist who is forced to make words come out of people's heads), I imagine, when the latest schmoe is enlisted to take over the writing chores of the Wonder Woman comic book, this question is an inevitable motivator. One of the greatest joys of life is being the biggest Wonder Woman fan in the universe. (No, I can't prove it, so screw you!) Conversely, one of the biggest disappointments in life is being the biggest Wonder Woman fan in the universe. No one knows what to do with her. One of the most powerful and recognizable female characters on the planet, and no one knows what to do with her.
When I was a little queen and first saw the epic beauty of Lynda Carter gussied up in that star-spangled swimsuit, everything went from wrong to right as it was love at first sight! It didn't and, sadly, probably won't get any better than that moment. In recent years we were promised a feature film by Joss Whedon, an all-star mini-series to be written and drawn by my absolute favorite good girl artist, Adam Hughes, and a television series with a chubby Wonder Woman in an all-wrong, camel-toe-sporting pantsuit from T.J.Maxx. Add to the disappointment pile. George Perez came closest to fine with his amazing portrayal on his lengthy, enjoyable, post-Crisis on Infinite Earth's reboot of the Amazing Amazon. Since then, we have seen WW work at Taco Bell, pump gas, and wear white after Labor Day. Add to the disappointment pile.
That said, I earnestly believe in the philosophy while there is life, there is hope. I am very hopeful of the future of Wonder Woman, as this month sees the roll out of the DCnU and a reboot of the whole DC line of comic books. Acclaimed 100 Bullets writer Brian Azzarello will be handling the DCnU adventures of everyone's favorite warrior queen. (Hey, Bri, don't eff it up!)
Who is this Woman and where is she going? Wonder Woman was created by psychologist William Moulton Marston, inventor of the lie detector (and closet fetish perv) as a role model for young girls who couldn't relate to Superman and Batman. Hey, I'm not made out of wood (or clay for that matter), she had me at Hola! Times have changed and role models have changed. In the age of entitlement, where reality television stars are the new Hollywood royalty and any yahoo with a video camera and a YouTube account can enjoy their gone-in-15-seconds moment of fame, I offer my suggestion for a Wonder Woman that might appeal more to the young girls (and gurls) seeking a role model today: Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi. Would everyone's favorite Guidette from MTV's wildly popular series, Jersey Shore, as Wonder Woman add to the disappointment pile? Probably. Will it happen? Probably not. Would I watch every moment, salivating and unable to take my eyes off a single moment? F#%k yeah, bro!
Michael Troy is a deeply superficial person. Born in the midwest in the '70s, Michael came to Los Angeles to pursue his bi-polar career path as an actor and artist. 2005 saw the release of Michael's first published book, Homo-Hero's Big Book of Fun and Adventure (www.greencandypress.com). Michael has contributed to the Lady Gaga comic book from Bluewater Productions and has his hand in various other upcoming projects. Michael has performed stand-up comedy at all of the major comedy clubs in Los Angeles and is making his triumphant return to the main stage of The Comedy Store in September. Michael offers an off-beat sense of humor as the star of such youtube cult classics As The Gays on Film (www.youtube.com/fullfrontaltv), A Minute With Margot, a loving tribute to Superman legend Margot Kidder (http://www.youtube.com/user/rktcommander), and currently hosts a vlog style series Lethally Blonde over at www.monsterburg.com. Sitting alongside industry heavyweight Phil Jimenez at the "Divas and Lassoes" panel for the 2010 San Diego comic-con, Michael maintains and cherishes his "underground" status. A staunch believer in Blonde Ambition, Michael hopes his new comic about shallow blonde super heroes in Los Angeles, The Blonde Squad, will set the world on fire (or at least brighten it a bit). Check out Michael Troy and Lethally Blonde updates here!!!
