Love is in the air at Fanboy Comics! In this magical month of romance and enchantment, the FBC Staff and Contributors decided to take a moment to stop and smell the roses. In the week leading up to Valentine's Day, a few members of the Fanboy Comics crew will be sharing their very personal "Love Letters" with our readers, addressed to the ones that they adore the most.

Dear Hitchhiker’s Guide,

How do I love thee? I won’t count the ways, but if I did, you can bet there’d be 42. I’ve fallen in love with so many books in my life, more than I could ever count, but when someone asks me to list my favorites, I don’t even have to think about it. You’ll always be right at the top. You’ve been with me through good times and bad. Through Vogons and Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters. And, whenever I seem to be having tremendous difficulty with my lifestyle, you tell me “Don’t Panic,” and cheer me up like Eccentrica Gallumbits, the—OK, I’ll stop with the references now.

Dear Superman/Clark/Kal-El,

We have never formally met, but we are fated to be together. Oh, I know you’re probably thinking, "but I’m with Lois Lane, silly girl. Have you never read a comic, watched TV, seen a movie, or opened your eyes? Interacted in modern society?” but do you really want a woman who was, frankly, too dim witted to not know who you were because of a pair of glasses? She is supposed to be a world-class reporter for God’s sake! Now, granted, the new series with Amy Adams is redeeming the character slightly . . . but our story has been written long before in the legends of my mind.

Kou Shuurei e,

As the weather gradually gets warmer, the first buds will begin appearing on the trees in your family’s garden. Each fresh blossom or green leaf represents a new beginning and the strength to keep going forward, something that you, my dear Shuurei, epitomize.

To the Clowns in the Sky,

Space. The Final Frontier. A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. Too far away for me, and I have little patience to sit through a history lesson. I prefer my sci-fi to take place in a not-too-distant future (possibly next Sunday, A.D.) way down in a place called Deep 13. Do I need Vaders and Mauls when I can have Forresters and T.V.'s Franks? Why deal with Klingons around Uranus or 1000 Falcons when I can hang out with the gang of the S.O.L. (Satellite of Love)? Why bother with an effeminate golden droid with a bad British accent or a blue and silver extra large suppository that won't speak in the same language as everyone else? Or a whiny farm boy, a smug smuggler, or an even more smug Captain? I prefer the likes of robots made from spare parts by a man trying to stave off insanity by loneliness and depression from being exiled by evil overlords. Or as many call them . . . bosses. This is the life I'm more partial towards, spending my days cracking wise on crap movies with a couple of robots. It's the American dream.

To my dearest (and only) favorite film about paranormal exterminators,

It’s not often a young boy meets the love of his life at age 6 and then nurtures and strengthens that passionate relationship for 30 years and counting.  It’s even harder to understand how that bond took hold, seeing as that you, my love, also managed to scare the Velcro off my Stride Rites upon first laying eyes on you.  Nevertheless, you, Ghostbusters, did just that.

Dear Monty Python,

Thank you for the best comedy that I have ever seen. I can (and will) rave about all the movies and the albums and the books, but Monty Python’s Flying Circus is that rare breed of thing eclipses everything that came before and everything that follows. It’s . . .

To Annie,

At last the heeded Season Four is here.
At last the peacock readies up to start
The show Community. When you appear,
At last the wound will heal within my heart.

From Atomic Robo to Peeta from The Hunger Games, the Fanboy Comics staffers are really just big softies under that geeky exterior.  We hope that you will enjoy this glimpse into the minds (and hearts) of Fanboy Comics!

Dear Trekkies,

I know that you have a wide range of opinions about what is considered to be the best of the Star Trek television shows, but I wanted to set the record straight concerning my feelings on the matter.  All of the shows have their positive sides—yes, even Enterprise, which appears to have a massive hate-on at times from you—but I believe that the one show that really has the best appeal to a wide variety of circles is Deep Space Nine.

My Dearest Buffy,

First, let me express my deepest apologies for requiring a holiday like Valentine’s Day to declare not only my love for you but also my unending respect. To paraphrase Ron Swanson, Valentine’s Day was invented by Hallmark to sell cards. We shouldn’t leave these matters of the heart to be spoken on specified days on the calendar, and, for that, I ask you to forgive me.

I am a better man today because of you, Buffy Anne Summers, and I mean that in the most literal way possible.
