Through the years, my addiction to horror (movies, girlfriends, books, games) has acted just like any other addiction (heroin, cocaine, bath salts, etc.).  The first good hit – in my case, Jaws (I was five years old.) – has never been replicated.  There were some close calls [The Shining (the book), Event Horizon, Exorcist] but never have I been as ball-shatteringly scared as when that Kintner boy was eaten.  I’ve chased it, though; whether it’s the new scary zombie movie or the new Stephen Kingbook, I will devour it in the hopes that maybe – just maybe – I’ll be scared out of my wits.

Nobody seems to understand why I find the 1933 version of The Invisible Man starring Claude Rains so scary. Out of all the horror movies that have ever been made, from Psycho to Night of the Living Dead to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, why does this somewhat gimmicky, 80-year-old film take my top spot?

It’s Halloween and that means it’s time to start thinking scary. For someone who considers himself a horror fan, it’s sometimes hard for me to find films that truly frighten me, but when a film does, I remember it forever. 28 Days Later, the movie which brought us running zombies and caused the zombie craze to begin, is one of those films. 28 Days Later is an extremely terrifying film which will shake you of your zombie oversaturation blahs and remind you how truly scary the genre can be.
