With its first issue out, writers Frankel and Jones have set up an interesting scenario. They’re obviously having a lot of fun with the magical elements of their tale but are currently giving the model world a short shrift in this intro chapter. It should be interesting to see how well they make these two disparate (but oddly similar) worlds collide. It’s a nice touch that Ceecee interrupts Persephone’s day job of judging souls and granting boons to take a mid-day spa visit, but it will be nice to see a lot more skewering of those Sex and the City memes.
Artist Wayne Brown’s pencils and inks (aided by Silva’s coloring) give a nice, sensual feel to the layouts and characters. There are cheesecake and beefcake a plenty in these pages, which is only fitting considering this tale, which manages to ably switch between the mystical and mundane worlds.
A good beginning that will only lead to a deeper threat, Frankel and Jones promise a mystery that will reveal “a plot that could undo the very order of the cosmos.” Set against this backdrop, Signed C could be an interesting story to keep an eye on.
