One of the very first webcomics I ever read, as well as one that is very well known throughout the realm of the Internet, is MegaTokyo, the story of a couple of Americans who find themselves lost in Tokyo, Japan, following an E3 expo.  While the two main characters are based, in part, on the original creators of the webcomic, they are nothing like the actual people (unless somehow Largo is really a teacher at a Tokyo high school); the situations that occur are in no way real, but they are very amusing and enjoyable to read.  There is no set update schedule, but it tries to update about once a week (but not always) at megatokyo.com.

Promising to watch over and protect the Earth for a couple of minutes while the Fantastic Four embark on a time-spanning explorative mission, Scott Lang, Medusa, She-Hulk, and Darla Daring spearhead the Future Foundation in the quartet’s absence; however, something keeps the foursome from returning on time, leaving the world in the hands of a “faux” four that never had any intentions of being more than a temporary stand-in. The new foursome come to know one another’s abilities and personalities as, almost immediately, villains begin to attack, believing the new group to be unable to fully take up the Fantastic Four’s charge. In the end, these four are able to work together and teach the rest of the Future Foundation’s children, and while they refuse to consider themselves a replacement for the team, they are, nonetheless, the FF.

There are several webcomics out there that deal with situational comedy aspects, and while some of them are truly enjoyable, I do not believe I have run into a more outlandish—and yet somewhat believable—sitcom than that of Ménage à 3. Three seemingly normal people who have seemingly normal lives end up having some of the most unusual relationship problems known to exist, and yet still end up sane and alive at the end of the day (how is beyond me). Because of the material involved, there is artistic and everyday use of nudity, and thus the comic rates itself as an “HBO-style romcom,” not suitable for all audiences. Ménage à 3 updates on a Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday schedule at ma3comic.com.

A war hero from a different generation reemerged in our time to help take on the world’s worst villains and to help lead the Avengers into battle. He idolizes a simpler time, where evil in the world was easier to identify and deal with, but his past has caught up with him in this brave, new world. He’s a superhero, an army officer, and the former commander of S.H.I.E.L.D.; he is Steve Rogers, better known as Captain America!

Need for SpeedI’m not a gamer like many of my peers or even my partners, though there are certain titles that I will play with an obsessive passion. One such title is the Need for Speed series, with their most recent release of Need for Speed: Most Wanted from last fall (or this past March for the Wii U).  There’s just something about getting behind the wheel of a souped-up car and racing through the streets of an urbanopolis with nitrous rocketing forward . . . right into hitting a brick wall.  It is a good thing I would never be a street racer in reality, because I’m sure that I would end up in the hospital several times over, as well as have really high auto insurance premiums.

Superheroes from all different walks of like, pulled together to help defend the Earth from enemies internal and stellar.  They number many, but they aren’t always needed in full force, as many missions only require the attention of a select few; however, when they’re called upon, they will answer to help keep the world safe from harm, shouting out the battle cry that makes even the most hardened villain stop in their tracks: Avengers Assemble!

Bringing together mutants and humans to spearhead a special superhero team, Captain America creates a “unity” team to help prove that mutants are not a threat to the world.  Choosing previous members from both teams, this new group works to help strengthen the binds within the superhero community as well as the planet as a whole, going against Cyclops and his call for revolution against humanity.  Choosing Cyclops’ own brother Havok to lead, Captain America gives his full support to the team and takes a backseat to his normal role as leader.  And, while this isn’t the first time mutant and human superheros have worked together, this is the first time it has been done in such a public fashion.  They’re here, they’re powerhouses, and they’re the Uncanny Avengers.
