Well, IDW Publishing has created an official comic book series for my two favorite Turtle troublemakers, and with the title of Bebop & Rocksteady Destroy Everything, you can tell beforehand that this comic series can't get any better! As a matter of fact, Bebop and Rocksteady don't just destroy everything in their very first issue--they destroy the whole time-space continuum!
After Donatello discovers the skeletons of Bebop and Rocksteady at the Museum of Natural History in New York City, our heroes-in-a-half-shell realize that the heroes of this story died over 80 million years ago. (80 million plus 1 as Mikey likes to point out.) But in the present-day timeline, when our two villains get their hands on a time-traveling scepter, there's only one person who can help the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles unravel the truth behind the mess--Renet!
As only the first issue of what will most likely be a four-part comic book series, writers Ben Bates and Dustin Weaver probably already have what I believe will be the best miniseries for the TMNT franchise that I've ready thus far. I love how Donatello is loosely telling us the story in narrative form. The storyline is complex, but already simple enough in the fact that Bebop and Rocksteady are simply trying to find a place where they belong. And the title alone keeps me wanting more even though I'm expecting the worst to happen! Bates and Weaver also did most of the artwork, along with artists Sophie Campbell and Giannis Milogiannis who covered the front and back of this first issue, respectively. Throw in TMNT regular Bobby Curnow as editor of this series, and this confirms my suspicion that this will be an awesome comic book miniseries to keep up with!
Who knows? You might even discover your "true self" by reading Bebop and Rocksteady Destroy Everything if you get my drift...
Then, you better pick up this amazing first issue at your local comic book store, before Michelangelo can grab that last slice of pizza you've been eyeing...
