‘TMNT Ongoing #56:’ Advance Comic Book Review

Well, it’s officially spring! No. I’m serious. Today’s the first day! And you know what that means . . . summer blockbusters are just around the corner!

Sure, we have some good movies coming out this year. Captain America: Civil War. Batman V Superman. Finding Dory. But, who else is pumped about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Out of the Shadows?!  I know I am.

In the meantime, at least we have the ongoing comic books to keep us excited. Last month, in TMNT #55, Michaelangelo left Hob and the Mutanimals to rejoin his four brothers who were about to embark on an adventure to Burnow Island, where Krang was last seen. Our heroes plan to meet with Fugitoid in hopes to help save Krang’s fellow species–the Utroms–in lieu of the aftermath of the Technodrome destruction.

This month, the Ninja Turtles set out on their journey to Burnow Island and are successful in reviving the Utroms from their slumberous state. We also are introduced to Leatherhead who may have been the cause of an adventure in the Turtles’ past. Meanwhile, Master Splinter reveals his own plans of action in regards to the remains of The Shredder…

As always, I am absolutely in love with writers Kevin Eastman, Bobby Curnow, and Tom Waltz. Not only do their storylines continue to captivate us as readers each month, but I truly appreciate when they reference past issues and make all their stories (miniseries included) come together so nicely. Mateus Santolouco’s artwork is also the perfect pairing to this writing trio. And, with colors by Ronda Pattison, each issue comes across as extremely unique, and yet equally enjoyable.

Oh wait. Did I mention that the Rat King made an appearance in this month’s issue? Why do I have the feeling that some characters are just not meant to be trusted . . .

Until next month,

#TurtlePower!
