‘TMNT Ongoing #53:’ Advance Comic Book Review

Have you seen it?! No, I’m not talking about Star Wars: The Force Awakens (which I’ve already seen 3 times and it hasn’t even been out for a week yet)! Alas, I’m talking about the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle: Out of the Shadows trailer! Am I the only one excited to see this movie next summer?!

Well, in the meantime, at least we have the ongoing TMNT comic book series to keep us occupied. And, with issue #53 out this week, there’s a lot to discuss.

If you can recall from last month, Master Splinter was in trouble, as both Kitsune and the Street Phantoms wished him dead. Meanwhile, Casey Jones was looking for trouble in his own “hood,” and Mikey may have found a new family among the Mutanimals. Talk about a “totally tubular” plot twist!

This month, Mikey goes on his first mission with the Mutanimals, Casey is still on the hunt for his trouble-making father Hun, and April, while still trying to learn about the ancient scroll she discovered a while back, learns a beautiful life lesson from her own mother that could be useful for all of us to adhere to.

As always, Kevin Eastman, Bobby Curnow, and Tom Waltz keep us readers entertained, even when they need to write an exposition-heavy comic from time to time. It’s the characters that keep me curious and continuously want to read more. Not to mention the cliffhanger’s at the end of almost every issue . . .

This month’s artwork is by Michael Dialynas and with colors by the fabulous Ronda Pattison, which means that you really couldn’t ask for a better creative team. Kudos to all, as always!

For now, we’ll have to wait and see what the new year has in store for our favorite pizza-loving heroes-in-a-half-shell!

Until next month,
#TurtlePower!
