‘TMNT: Casey & April #4’ – Advance Comic Book Review

We come to the end of yet another Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle miniseries.  This time, we have followed Casey Jones and April O’Neil through a rather extravagant adventure, all for the sake of a mysterious scroll, originally discovered in the ongoing TMNT storyline.

If you recall from last month’s issue of Casey & April, both of our protagonists went through some pretty weird mind trips led by the mysterious Rat King. Weird, yes, but a very common theme throughout this miniseries has been about the relationship between Casey and April, and, in this case, they struggle through the Rat King’s maze—together!

This month, however, we learn much more about the Rat King and his immortal sister.  Although the immortal whom I shall call the “Bird Queen” has more answers than her devious brother, we, as readers, are still left with many questions about the scroll that brought Casey and April out to the desert in the first place.  That being said, our two heroes learn a lot about each other in this miniseries, and I’m pretty sure that’s what these four issues set out to explore more than anything else.

If anyone deserves recognition for this fantastic miniseries, it’s obviously Mariko Tamaki for her always intriguing storyline and Irene Koh for her beautiful artwork.  I’ve never fallen so in love with a comic book couple before, and I, for one, believe that this series accomplished exactly what it desired to achieve. Congrats, ladies, for being such a strong female duo in such an unequal world.  I raise my pen to you!

In the meantime, not only do I look forward to the next project from this exciting duo, but I also look forward to the next miniseries brought to us by our favorite heroes-in-a-half-shell—the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

Until then, for one last time, this hashtag goes out to . . .
