‘Donald Duck #2:’ Advance Comic Book Review

Who gets stuck with all the bad luck? Well yes, anyone who visits Jurassic World on vacation, but I was thinking more along the lines of Donald Duck. The famous Disney duck is back with all his friends in Donald Duck #2, and that includes the conclusion to “Shellfish Motives,” a storyline that began last month. This issue also includes two additional stories: “Fishing Warning” and “Donald Duck, Counter Spy.”

But first, “Shellfish Motives” last left us with a mysterious kidnapping and Donald on the case. Donald’s uncle, Gideon McDuck, is the publisher and owner of The County Conscience, and he needs this story to keep his newspaper alive before being forced to sell his business to his brother, Scrooge McDuck. But, with Donald messing up every lead given to him by Uncle Gideon (The poor duck means well.), it’s up to his nephews, Huey, Dewey, and Louie, to solve the case! And, boy, do they ever! Even I was surprised to see who the kidnapper was! (HINT: It was someone we all know and love!)

As I stated last month, Donald Duck has a great team of writers and artists supporting him. Author and artist Romano Scarpa kept me at the edge of my seat while reading the conclusion of “Shellfish Motives.” The quick follow-up cartoon written by Francois Corteggiani and drawn by Lara Molinari was a great laugh! I’m really enjoying these new characters, such as Uncle Gideon and Donald’s cousin, Fethry. Finally, writer and artist Al Taliaferro gave us a brilliantly hilarious look into what it would be like to have Donald Duck as a neighbor. Let’s just say that Donald’s neighbors were the ones stuck with all the bad luck in this short story! Kudos to all involved, and I must give a shoutout to Disney Italia for their fabulous coloring work. Brava!

Although Donald Duck #2 may be an end to Donald’s work as a detective, I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of his stories each month. Unless we have a case of bad luck . . .
