‘TMNT Adventures: Volume 9’ – Advance TPB Review

Lately, each and every TMNT comic book I read is like a blast from the past! I just finished Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures, Volume 9, and I would be lying if some of the characters in these issues didn’t remind me of some wonderful childhood memories. Characters like Sting Ray and Jagwar and Leatherhead; I still remember playing with each of these action figures as if it were yesterday . . .

But, enough about my pubescent years, let’s talk about this AWESOME collection of TMNT stories! Turtles in Space is what this volume should have been called, because it never ceases to surprise me where (or when!) our pizza-loving heroes will end up. We’ve seen them tackle the sewers, then travel through time, and now, like any mutant I suppose, we can catch their adventures with their fellow mutant space buddies, better known as Mutanimals.

This beautiful collection of comic books, with each script penned by Dean Clarrain, starts mid-battle in the search for Jagwar’s mother. By the next issue, however, our heroes are putting out rainforest fires and tackling a grim reaper. Clarrain clearly has an inventive imagination, if you ask me, but it’s our artists who really make this volume stand out. With inks by Brian Thomas, Scott Shaw, and Jon D’Agostino, and pencils by Chris Allan and Mike Kazaleh, you really can’t ask for a better team of artists. Although each issue might have its own unique depiction of our heroes-in-a-half-shell, none of them lose the sense of the same concept and morale. Kudos to all!

So, if you’re looking for a new collection of blast-from-the-past Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles material, pick up Adventures, Volume 9 today from your local nerd shop.

In the meantime . . .
