Fanboy Comics’ Scariest: Voldemort

As Halloween is fast approaching, the Fanboy Comics staff and contributors decided that there was no better way to celebrate this horrifically haunting holiday than by sharing our favorite scary stories! Be they movies, TV shows, video games, novels, or anything other form of entertainment, members of the FBC crew will be sharing their “scariest” stories each day leading up to Halloween. We hope that you will enjoy this sneak peek into the terrors that frighten Fanboy Comics!

When this assignment was first sent to me, my mind immediately went into a racing frenzy! I mean, there are so many amazing villains out there in the comic book world, not to mention those in film, TV, books, video games, and whatever other media you can think of. But, who is ultimately the SCARIEST?

I originally thought about Sauran from The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Then, I thought about Shredder from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series.  I thought about Disney villains like Scar, Ursula, Cruella de Vil, and Jafar. I thought about Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine and even Grand Admiral Thrawn who appears in some of the Star Wars books.  I even thought about the witches in Hocus Pocus. I’m telling you, I researched practically every villain I knew! But, there was only one who rose above all the other baddies . . . Voldemort!

First of all, when we first learn about Harry Potter’s worst enemy, we don’t get to know him as Voldemort. Rather, he is known as He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. He was so bad to the wizard world that they didn’t want to say his name aloud after his disappearance in fear that he may return. How scary is that? To live in a world where society’s greatest enemy still lurks in the shadows? The only other villain I can think of whose name you didn’t want to repeat out loud was Beetlejuice, but at least he was fun when he responded to one’s call.

Then, there are those blasted Horcruxes.  What is a Horcrux, you ask?  Why, it’s only a piece of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named’s soul trapped inside a personal object–an object that can only be destroyed by an extremely limited amount of other magical objects.  In other words: VOLDEMORT CANNOT DIE!  With pieces of his soul connected to objects found all over the world, our scariest villain was able to slowly revive himself over time, eventually getting his chance to battle “The Boy Who Lived,” arch-nemesis Harry Potter.  And, get this: Voldemort made Harry Potter a Horcrux! So, for those of you who have yet to read JK Rowling’s 7-part masterpiece, our hero had to die in order to kill Voldemort completely. That’s intense!

Oh, and let’s not forget about Voldemort’s supporters, The Death Eaters. That’s right, boys and girls, our creepiest villain comes with his own army of evil witches and wizards. Baddies like Bellatrix Lestrange, Lucius Malfoy, Peter Pettigrew, and more who all seek the same vengeance: to destroy the muggle race. And, for those of you who don’t speak wizard, muggles are basically humans without magic. Yup. Voldemort was an evil racist, ladies and gentlemen, one who wanted only to keep pure-blood families in the wizard world. And, there’s nothing more scary than a racist with a vengeance. Especially one who uses Killing Curses. One flick of his wand and the simple utter of “Avada Kedavra” and you’re a goner. He might as well throw Ebola at me and call it a day!

So, it’s for all of those reasons, my fellow ghouls, that I think Vold–I mean–He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is the scariest villain I can think of. And, I stand by my decision even after seeing that new Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer. Voldy doesn’t need strings to hold him down either. Because part of his soul may very well be resting in that object sitting right beside you . . .

Happy Halloween, nerds! Feel free to comment below if you can think of other villains that are scarier!
