‘G.I. Joe #4:’ Advance Comic Book Review (Oh, You Gotta Be Freaking Kidding Me?!)

GI Joe 4

GI Joe 4A few months ago, IDW relaunched all their G.I. Joe lines with new titles that are designed to be easy for readers to jump right in and follow the adventures of the Real American Heroes. I decided I would start reading and reviewing the flagship title, G.I. Joe, by Fred Van Lente and Steve Kurth. We are four issues in, and the previous 3 issues have been amazing for all readers and really terrible for the Joes. The Joes have been split up, pinned down, and under siege since halfway through Issue #1, while their leader Duke is tortured by the evil Baroness and Dr. Mindbender.

Luckily, you can’t keep a good Joe down, and in Issue #4, we get to see G.I. Joe take the fight back to Cobra. Roadblock and Cover Girl manage to bring their teams back together and plan an assault on Cobra’s hideout in order to rescue Duke. This leads to several pages of awesome action as the Joes kick some serious butt. Don’t think this is the end, though, because just as the Joes think they are about to secure victory, Cobra reveals the final part of their plan. If this series has been a perfect 10 so far, well, then Cobra just amped it up to 11.

This new G.I. Joe series delivers tons of adventure and excitement. Van Lente and Kurth have found a perfect balance of character, drama, and action that keeps this book an entertaining page turner. Whether you’ve been playing with the toys since the ’80s or you are a brand new Joe fan, this book is a perfect read, so pick it up.
