Hoax Hunters 3Hoax Hunters is the story of a special team armed with scientific and magical powers that searches the world for reported “cryptids,” mystical creatures like the Yeti or the Jersey Devil.  Instead of exposing them to be true, they “prove” them false in order to to preserve their existence.

This week’s film comes recommended by Fanboy Comics Senior Contributor Drew Siragusa, the man who introduced me to the Doctor.  That makes him a good friend.  Likewise, this Doctor Who fan film is a great piece.

In the wake of Ridley Scott’s return to science fiction on the good ship Prometheus, the director proved that the legacy of Alien still has a firm grip on the face of popular culture.  This week we take a look at a sci-fi fan film inspired by that original 1979 beast, and it deserves a legacy of its own.

This week, in honor of the opening of The Cabin in the Woods, FFOW! highlights an original film based on the work of Joss Whedon.

THE FILM

In 2008, after the Writer's Guild of America strike that shut down Hollywood for fourteen weeks, Buffy creator Joss Whedon produced the original internet musical sensation Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.  It starred Neil Patrick Harris as the title character, a maniacal madman wannabe whose only wish is to defeat his pig-headed superhero nemesis Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion) and win the heart of Penny (Felicia Day), the girl of his dreams.  Whedon's short premiered to acclaim and went on to win many awards, leading to whispers of the soon-to-be-made sequel.

But, certain fans asked hard-hitting questions.  What events made Dr. Horrible so…well, horrible?  Why does the world absolutely LOVE Captain Hammer?  And, where can I get a pair of those goggles?

With so many big events happening in the comics world -- Marvel and DC’s pro-gay story arcs, the legal disputes between comics creators and corporations -- let’s not forget some of the most important events happening off the published page.  Namely (as my loving wife reminded me), this week marked the season finale of America’s Next Top Model: British Invasion!  To celebrate, we’re looking at AtomicWedgieTV’s parody, Cleveland’s Next Top Model.
