‘Star Wars: Darth Maul – Son of Dathomir #4’ – Advance Comic Book Review

What is this, villains week?! This is the second comic book I’ve read all week that showcased only villains. I’m certainly not complaining, but as a new reader to the comic book realm, I expected more heroes to be slicing and dicing. Yet, it’s nice to see that writers and artists also give more depth to even their evilest of characters . . . which is why I’m glad I read up on Issue #4 in the Star Wars: Darth Maul – Son of Dathomir series.

Although I am unfamiliar with the previous issues, I was a huge fan of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the animated series on Cartoon Network, so I remember parts of this story line. I would have liked to see more lightsaber battles between Darth Maul and Count Dooku or General Grievous in this issue. I was a little confused as to why Maul pulled out a sword to fight his enemies. I kept thinking: “Darth Maul does realize that a lightsaber will slice through metal, does he not?”

That being said, I did really enjoy the artwork during the final standoff between Darth Sidious and Mother Talzin. I won’t tell you who wins, but if you know anything about the Star Wars universe, you should be able to figure it out.

Although I really enjoyed this issue, I feel as if our comic book enemies need to learn to get along. Otherwise, our heroes won’t have anyone to fight anymore.

Here’s a thought: it was Darth Vader who finally brought balance to the force in the original films. If our enemies keep killing each other, are they the only ones who CAN bring balance to the force? How often do we see Jedi actually killing their villainous enemies? If it is not the “Jedi way” to kill for revenge, how do their enemies ever die?

Comment below with your thoughts, and, as always . . . may the force be with you!
