‘X-Files: Season 10 #4’ – Advance Comic Book Review

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 20 years, two entire decades since The X-Files premiered. I was 7. When I was around 10 or 11, I saw my first episode and was hooked. It was one of the early “creature feature” episodes, and from then on I would watch it every week, even though I wasn’t supposed to. I used to think waiting week to week for new episodes was excruciating, now I have to wait month to month and it’s killing me. Luckily, I have Netflix to tide me over between the new issues of Joe Harris’ fun, exciting, and faithful comic book series X-Files: Season 10, published by IDW. The penultimate installment of “Believers” gives us a bit more insight into what’s going on at Yellowstone, and what part Scully’s abductor may play in it.

X-Files: Season 10 couldn’t have come at a better time either, when the question of “who can you trust?” has never been more prevalent. People’s faith in the government is quickly dwindling, especially with the latest revelations about the NSA, and what lengths the government will go to in order to circumvent the law. Now, the world is filled with millions of Mulders, who aren’t afraid to seek out the truth behind what the government knows, their shady practices, and who’s really pulling the strings. This is the perfect time for the return of the franchise that told us to trust no one.

As a lot of you reading this know, or have cleverly deduced, I’m quite the fan of comic books, but I can’t honestly remember when I was this excited to read a new issue of a series. Each month it’s like Christmas morning. X-Files Season 10 #4 is another example of how well Joe Harris writes these characters. He’s got each character’s “voice” down pat. It’s like the show hasn’t skipped a beat. “Believers” Part Four is a thrilling page-turner that hooks you immediately with a cliffhanging cold open and doesn’t let you off. It brings a smile to my face reading Season 10. It reminds me of my childhood and all the fun I had watching these characters. Michael Walsh’s art plays a large part of that with his spot on renditions of Mulder, Scully, and the rest of the gang and really brings the story to life along with Jordie Bellaire’s beautiful colors.

This series is a must-read for all X-Philes. Pick up your copy of X-Files: Season 10 #4 on September 18th!
