A Love Letter to Joss Whedon

Love is in the air at Fanboy Comics!  In this magical month of romance and enchantment, the FBC Staff and Contributors decided to take a moment to stop and smell the roses.  In the week leading up to Valentine’s Day, a few members of the Fanboy Comics crew will be sharing their very personal “Love Letters” with our readers, addressed to the ones that they adore the most.

Dear Mr. Whedon,

I am not even sure where to begin. Um . . . Well . . . It’s like . . . Well, I feel . . . You see . . . Before you . . . There once was . . . A long time ago . . . Back in the day . . . It goes like this . . . I . . . Uh . . . Guh . . . Eh . . . A . . .

Hi.

Wow!

What’s up?

How you doin’?

Sorry, I am normally much more articulate and intelligent. It’s just that, well . . . you’re . . . Joss, Joss. JOSS WHEDON! Sorry. This is coming out much more like a stalker letter than I intended. Hmmmm . . .

Before you, Joss, when people thought geek, they thought . . . Urkel, Revenge of the Nerds, Star Trek, Star Wars, and while I am a HUGE fan of the latter two, I don’t think anyone is going to argue that Star Trek had mind-blowing, intellectual dialogue—just saying. I love me some Shatner slam poetry, but that’s a whole different ballgame. You have created a whole genre of geekdom that quenches our thirst for geeky concepts and stimulates conversation at the same time – witty banter, kicka– female characters, complex plots, unforgettable dialogue—lines you take away with you—a whole silent episode that’s geeky and hauntingly beautiful. The care you put into the mythology of the worlds and the lineage of the characters you create is unheard of. You create worlds I want to swim in forever, they are so much fun! I mean . . . I love that I get to leave, because I would probably die if I lived in one of those worlds . . . but I wish I lived in a world where people were as witty as you wrote! Can you and Aaron Sorokin team up and write my life? Hmmm, ideas are coming . . . fun ideas . . . anywho . . . I think I would like it more.

And, for Valentine’s this year, Joss, all I want is Angel and Spike: The Musical Jr. Let’s make that happen, okay? I know you can. And, it really needs a guest appearance from Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion, don’t you think?

Keesees xoxo,
Brookman
