#GeeksCare: How You Can Help Groupees.com and the Extreme Justice League

When Fanboy Comics is not providing you with the latest in geek news and entertainment, the FBC staff hopes to offer our readers a myriad of opportunities to give back to the community. We love reading comics, watching movies, and playing video games, but we are never happier than when we are able to help others in need. With Geeks Care: How You Can Help, FBC will provide you a variety of causes that would greatly appreciate your time.

This week’s edition of Geeks Care: How You Can Help highlights not one, but two fantastic organizations, each of which is doing their part to give back to their geeky communities. Fanboy Comics is excited to introduce Groupees.com and Extreme Justice League to its readers.  Groupees offers its customers comic book, video game, music, and charity bundle campaigns that collect donations for non-profit organizations, while Extreme Justice League is a San Diego-based organization that was formed to take a proactive stance against violent crime and to empower its community to get involved.  On behalf of Fanboy Comics, I hope that you’ll join me in learning more about these worthwhile groups!

Groupess.com’s current bundle campaign offers over fourteen titles from fantastic indie publishers, including Alterna, Athlita, Source Point Press, Wannabe Press, Warrior Innkeeper, Guardian Knight, and Vivid Publishing. Buyers can name their price ($1 minimum) for the comic book bundle and choose for part of their contribution to be donated to Direct Relief International Charity

Extreme Justice League (a.k.a. XJL) was founded in 2006 by San Diego superhero Mr. Xtreme and encourages the superhero alter egos of their members to stop violent street crime throughout San Diego through prevention, intervention, and community outreach. The XJL also serves as a means to prevent at-risk youth from getting involved in gangs, drugs, and crime.  By raising awareness of crime and safety-related issues by passing out flyers and doing media campaigns, assisting the homeless by providing food, water, and referrals to shelters, and serving as a training center for new people trying to get involved in the Real Life Superhero community, the XJL is active in making its community a safer place through its support and resources.  The group is always accepting new members, and the rules for admissions may be found on the XJL official website.

Where you’re in the San Diego area and want to help your community or you’re interested in receiving an exciting indie comic book bundle and making a donating to a worthwhile cause, I hope that you will give these wonderful organizations a moment of your time.

If you have a volunteer opportunity or an important cause that could use the assistance of a few geeks, please email the details to barbra (at) fanboycomics.net.
