Star Wars Celebration 2015: The Untold ‘Clone Wars’ with Dave Filoni and Pablo Hidalgo

At this year’s Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, CA, the Fanboy Comics crew attended the panel for The Untold Clone Wars with Star Wars Rebels Executive Producer Dave Filoni and Lucasfilm Creative Executive Pablo Hidalgo. The panel provided further insight into The Clone Wars’ episodes, development, and storylines that never made it to air after the fan-favorite series had been cancelled.  With sneak peeks of Clone Wars storyboard sketches by Filoni himself, an enthusiastic crowd enjoyed one more taste of the show that was taken away too soon.

The panel was a mix of slideshow images from Dave Filoni’s own sketchpad, featuring images of Wookie Tarful speaking to the trees, the “Bad Batch” – a group of Clones who George Lucas had hoped would be further explored, Ventress’ Separatist ballgown, young Boba Fett, and Wookies riding Giant Tree Gods into battle, as well as low-resolution animation that had never reached the small screen.  (Fans will be excited to know that tomorrow’s schedule at Star Wars Celebration will feature another panel led by Filoni, which will screen four never-before-seen, unfinished episodes focusing on the “Bad Batch.”)

One of the most exciting moments for this Clone Wars fan was seeing additional animation of a chase with Ventress, kicking butt and taking names as usual, but with a punky, new, blonde ‘do that only made her even more cool.

What may have piqued the audience’s interest the most, though, was the unseen final storyline and footage for Ahsoka Tona.  While Filoni and Hidalgo wouldn’t share too much, they did say that had the show continued, we would have seen what became of the Togruta.

Overall, the panel provided a few more moments of happiness to fans who long for more episodes of The Clone Wars.  It was clear that Filoni and Hidalgo loved working on the series and have been enjoying their work on the latest venture, Star Wars Rebels.  For fans who are able to attend Star Wars Celebration tomorrow, I highly recommend checking out the screening and panel discussion of Star Wars: The Clone Wars “Bad Batch,” which will take place on Friday, April 17, at 12 p.m. on the Digital Stage.
