The Kickstarter Report: ‘Blackwood’

BlackwoodAs avid supporters of indie comic book creators, the Fanboy Comics staff has been keeping a watchful and interested eye on the folks at Bleeding Ink Productions.  With a seemingly unending list of new titles being generated by the indie publisher, including last summer’s announcment regarding their mini-series Blood-Moon, Bleeding Ink is at it again with a Kickstarter campaign for an ongoing horror series called Blackwood.

Founded by writer/creator Jesse Grillo, Bleeding Ink Productions seeks to “ . . . create unique, hardline stories that stand out from anything you’ve ever read.”  Previous titles include Chapel, War Zone, Sensory Distortion, Demigods, and Patriot, all penned by Grillo.

Blackwood will undoubtedly appeal to fans of the horror genre, as it tells a chilling and terrifying tale while tipping its hat to horror classics like Evil Dead, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and The Gate.  The series will tell the story of Kai Blackwood, a troubled soul that has been on anti-psychotics his entire life in an effort to battle his hallucinations of monsters. When he discovers that the hallucinations are real, Kai learns the hard truth that he is one of the few individuals who has the power to stop the monstrous forces before they lay claim to the souls of Earth’s inhabitants.  Written by Grillo and featuring art by Kavika (Starcraft, Diablo, LOTR, C&C: Generals, Magic the Gathering), Blackwood is sure to grab readers with its gripping story and stunningly gruesome images.

If successfully funded through Kickstarter, Bleeding Ink Productions will be able to produce the first three issues of Blackwood.  To learn more about the story behind Blackwood and to see a preview of the amazing artwork in store for the project, be sure to check out the below video.
