Geeks Care: How You Can Help The Naïve Project

SolestarLogoMartinDunnWhen Fanboy Comics is not providing you with the latest in geek news and entertainment, the FBC staff and I hope to offer our readers a myriad of opportunities to give back to the community.  We love reading comics, watching movies, and playing video games, but we are never happier than when we are able to help others in need.  With Geeks Care: How You Can Help, FBC will provide you a variety of causes that would greatly appreciate your time.

A few months ago, the Fanboy Comics staff received an online introduction to Siike (pronounced “Seek”) Donnelly, a comic book creator and writer who survived a brain aneurysm in 2010.  Forced to rebuild his speech patterns and relearn how to walk, Donnelly forged a strong will and a desire to help other brain aneurysm survivors.  With his newly formed company, The Naïve Project, Donnelly seeks to publish an original graphic novel featuring art donated by 55 different artists and educational information regarding brain aneurysms, the proceeds of which will go to the Brain Aneurysm Foundation.

The graphic novel, to be titled Solestar, will be a superhero story whose protagonist will have an origin set during the bombing of Hiroshima.  According to Donnelly, “I wanted to create a superhero that knew loss right from the start. It’s kind of the staple when creating someone with powers. They have to come from tragedy to obtain victory. This is something I now understand on a personal level. Hopefully, victory follows my tragedy with this project.”

At this time, the writer already has over a dozen artists signed on to donate their services, including Kate Carleton, Paul Barnes, Aaron Pierce, Renzo Ventrella, Christian Leaf, Martin Dunn, Neil Kapit, Jim Dewey, and Jenai Pellerin.  With the book’s estimated release date set for Winter of 2012, more artists are needed.  If you are an artist who is interested in working on Solestar, please contact Siike Donnelly by emailing thenaiveproject@gmail.com or by visiting The Naïve Project on Facebook or Twitter (@ExplodingBullet).
