Gen Con logoGen Con, the granddaddy of all tabletop gaming conventions, is still a ways out, taking place from August 15-18, but that magical time of the year is upon us: pre-registration.

Gen Con pre-registration starts at 12 p.m. (Eastern) on May 19, 2013, and you'll want to act fast in order to secure those fun events. Currently, a complete list of the events running can be viewed at www.gencon.com/events/find, where gamers can even make their wishlist of games to attend, allowing for faster pre-registration on the 19th. An Excel sheet of all the events can be downloaded even without registering for a badge here.

Big Hero 6When Disney first acquired Marvel Comics in 2009, there was a lot of speculation if the company so synonymous over the years with feature film animation would ever produce an animated film based on a Marvel property.  The answer was announced today.

Hunger-Games-Cake“I kept telling myself if I could just hold out until May, just May 8th, I would turn twelve and be able to sign up for the tessarae and get that precious oil and grain to feed us.”

Katniss Everdeen – The Hunger Games (pg. 27-28)

Dear Fanboy Comics Readers:

May 8th is the day that Panem welcomed everybody’s favorite Girl on Fire into the world. Today is the day we celebrate the birthday of Katniss Everdeen of District 12 (and The Hunger Games). The staff at FBC couldn’t be happier than to wish her an enjoyable and, hopefully, non-violent day, free of tessarae concerns and full of a chorus of mockingjays singing that classic b-day tune and, one imagines, a delicious cake courtesy of the Mellark Bakery. (It pays to know someone on the inside . . . especially when it involves frosting!)

Dear Fanboy Comics Readers:

The FBC staff is very excited to be exhibiting at Long Beach Comic Expo this weekend, alongside a number of other talented independent creators!  Taking place on Saturday, May 11th, at the Long Beach Convention Center, the annual event is a celebration of comic books and pop culture that showcases the exceptional works of talented writers, artists, illustrators, and creators of all pop culture genres.

Fans in attendance will have a chance to stop by the Fanboy Comics table (#6001) to meet the creators of the graphic novels Something Animal and Identity Thief and to pick up their very own signed copies.  Attendees will also be able to purchase the official Fanboy Comics t-shirt, so that they can show their geek pride in style.

FBC FCBD Sampler Cover 2013Dear Fanboy Comics Readers:

Happy Free Comic Book Day from Fanboy Comics!  Given that Free Comic Book Day is our favorite day in all of geekdom, we felt that there would be no better way to celebrate than by offering readers a free sample of our geekiest content.

May the 4th Be With YouDear Fanboy Comics Readers:

This will be a day long remembered...

Today, we celebrate one of the geekiest holidays of them all, Star Wars Day! To most die-hard fans, any day could be Star Wars Day. I watch the films religiously, so what makes this one day so special? Well, what started as a clever pun amongst fans, May the 4th be with you, blossomed into a full-fledged geek holiday over the years. So much so that LucasFilm embraced it and uses it as a day to make big announcements in the Star Wars community. What awesome news can we expect this year? Frankly, I'm not sure! With the recent news of Episode VII, VIII, and IX, as well as standalone films every single year starting in 2015, one has to wonder exactly what else they can spring on us.

FCBD 2013Dear Fanboy Comics Readers:

Fanboy Comics (FBC) is excited to announce the release of its very first Free Comic Book Day sampler on Saturday, May 4, 2013.

Samuel Morse(Click here for Morse Code translation.)

Listen up, my little dots and dashes, because Morse Code Day is today, April 27th, and was created to commemorate the birthday of painter and co-inventor of the Morse Code, Samuel Morse.  Yeah, I bet you didn’t know he was a painter, too.  A pretty successful painter, actually. Look it up, I bet you’ll be impressed.
