Coagula Curatorial Presents: MAY THE 4TH BE WITH YOU with artist Sean Starwars

Coagula Curatorial

Coagula CuratorialIf you live in the Los Angeles area and LOVE Star Wars, you will not want to miss Coagula Curatorial’s MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU celebration on Saturday, May 4th, from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m.  In honor of Star Wars Day, which is celebrated worldwide by fans of the films, Coagula Curatorial will play host to a day of family friendly activities at their Los Angeles art gallery.

Featuring famed pop expressionist woodcut artist Sean Starwars, MAY THE 4TH BE WITH YOU will include a Star Wars costume contest, games, screen-printing, puppets, a comedy show, and balloon characters! Coagula will be decked out floor-to-ceiling with the eclectic work of Starwars, who is a member of the legendary Outlaw Printmakers.  (He is such a big fan of the Star Wars films that he legally changed his name!) Currently, Starwars is embroiled in his most challenging project to date: One Woodcut A Week – FOR LIFE. His life-long love of Mountain Dew should provide plenty of fuel. He will be doing screen-printing live at the exhibit, as well as signing any purchases made that day.

In addition, Adam Shenkman, creator of LA Weekly’s favorite children’s play The Breakfast Show, will be performing a special Star Wars-themed puppet show throughout the day. John Buckner, named LA Magazine’s best balloon sculptor, will be on hand to craft Star Wars designs.

Costumes are strongly encouraged, as prizes for the best costumes will be awarded at the end of the day. Categories for the contest will be Mini-Stormtrooper (child), Biggest Nerd (adult), and Knight/Padawan (parent / child).

At 9:00 p.m., the gallery and the Sean Starwars show will be transformed into a comedy club for mature audiences to enjoy a Star Wars-themed night of comedy. Emceed by comedian Tony Bartolone, this free comedy show will feature a wild roster of established Los Angeles comedians delivering their unique takes on the classic science fiction saga.
