Fanbase Press’ Barbra Dillon to Join Programming for Loscon 2019, with a Focus on Comics, Building a Fanbase, and More

The Fanbase Press staff is very excited to announce that Editor-in-Chief Barbra Dillon will be joining the programming lineup for the 46th annual Loscon 2019. Taking place from November 29 – December 1, 2019, at the Marriott Los Angeles Airport Hotel, Loscon is Los Angeles’ longest running fan convention hosted by the Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society (LASFS) – the world’s oldest continuously active science fiction and fantasy club (founded Oct. 27, 1934).

Barbra Dillon will be participating in quite a few intriguing panels throughout the weekend alongside talented writers, creators, and media curators that you will not want to miss!

Saturday, November 30

11:30 a.m.: How to Pitch Your Project – In the beginning, there is the Idea. But unless you’re already fabulously wealthy, you will need funding to bring your idea to reality. In order to get that funding, you need backers and producers. And in order to get those backers and producers on your side, you have to persuade them. There are some methods that have been known to work, and many more that don’t.

1:00 p.m.: Building a Fanbase: Best Strategies – If you plan to have a career, you will need to grow a fan base. Come find out some of the best marketing strategies and ways to grow and retain your fans.

4:00 p.m.: Writing and Producing Comics –  Comics are more visible as a part of popular culture than they’ve been in decades, and yet traditional comics have plummeted in sales, while quirky and independent comics are dominating sales charts. Come and find out what it takes to get from an idea to a store shelf.

Sunday, December 1

10:00 a.m.: The Author/Reader Relationship – When crafting new, expansive worlds inhabited by three-dimensional characters, an author’s every intention is to capture the attention of the reader and to ensure that the world and characters resonate entirely and authentically. But, is there a reciprocal nature to the author-reader relationship? Led by Fanbase Press Editor-in-Chief Barbra Dillon, this panel – featuring Sara Adams, Barbara Hambly, and Jude-Marie Green – will discuss how readers form parasocial relationships with a story’s characters, and how those relationships can create new and interesting dynamics between the author and reader.  (Pacific Coast 4 Ballroom)

1:00 p.m.: The Business of Writing – Writing is a lot of fun, but it is also a business. Learn best pracitces on how to make money off of your writings.
