As Fanbase Press continues its 10th anniversary celebration this year, the award-winning publisher and geek culture website continues its mission to produce new and distinctive works that give voice to the themes, ideals, and people that make geekdom so exceptional.  In light of the worldwide impact of COVID-19 being felt by our communities and those striving to find a path forward, Fanbase Press has chosen to postpone the release of its comic book series, Nuclear Power, to be mindful to its creative team and their families in these challenging times.  The 6-issue series is an alternate history tale of the Cuban Missile Crisis, written by Desirée Proctor and Erica Harrell (Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead: Michonne, DC Comics New Talent Showcase 2017) and illustrated by Lynne Yoshii (DC's Gotham City Garage, Inside the Loop, DC Comics New Talent Showcase 2017).  The series is now slated for a digital-first release of the single issues via Hoopla and ComiXology starting in April 2021, followed by the release of a printed trade paperback in October 2021.  For a sneak peek of the creators' hard work on the series, Fanbase Press is thrilled to share the first four issue covers created by artist Yoshii.

Fanbase Press is excited to announce that Quince: The Definitive Bilingual Edition hardcover has been named as a finalist for the 2020 International Latino Book Awards (via Empowering Latino Futures) in the Graphic Novel category.  The International Latino Book Awards aim to recognize greatness in literature, honoring authors, translators, and illustrators for books written in English, Spanish, or Portuguese.  The ceremony for the 22nd annual International Latino Book Awards will take place virtually on Saturday, September 12, 2020, at 3 p.m./PT.  The Emcee for the Awards Ceremony will be Edward James Olmos.  At the ceremony, winners will be named for first and second place, as well as an honorable mention.

As the impact of the Coronavirus continues to reverberate throughout the comic book industry and our society as a whole, we at Fanbase Press would like to provide an opportunity for all comics industry professionals to join together in solidarity. On Saturday, July 25, at 10 a.m./PST, Fanbase Press will host its weekly Creator Forum: Group Discussion, an hour-long, informal discussion about the positive ways to cope with the changing comics landscape. Taking place via the Zoom platform (video and audio), the Creator Forum will be free to join and limited to the first 100 attendees to RSVP. The previous Group Discussions have been a great success, with creators, publishers, media professionals, and educators from across the comics medium discussing new and positive ideas. We hope that this discussion will provide an opportunity to re-connect with colleagues, to find new resources and information, and to build hope in collaborating with other comics creators.

In spite of the cancellation of this year's in-person San Diego Comic-Con 2020, the Fanbase Press Staff is very excited to be participating in the virtual Comic-Con@Home event taking place from Wednesday, July 22, through Sunday, July 26.  You won't want to miss the exciting panels, sales, and other coverage from the virtual con brought to you by the team at Fanbase Press!
